Anime Reviews: Attack On Titan

Don’t worry. It’s spoiler free.

decided to kick my anime reviews series off with Attack On Titan, because it is a series that is near and dear to my heart. Attack on Titan was the show that first introduced me to the world of manga and anime, and besides being a show that’s reminiscent to me- it’s just a bloody good series.

Plot Rating: 3.5/5. To describe the Attack on Titan plot in just a few sentences would be impossible, which is why I gave this section a 3.5. Now don’t get me wrong- AOT has a great story with amazing themes and never-before seen ideas put into action. However- between season 1 and season 4 the feel of the show has completely changed. That’s not particurly bad, and the plot justifies this- but it makes for a bit of a bumpy ride.

Character Rating: 5/5. This show has so many amazing characters with well-written story arcs. The characters changing and growing throughout the series is what makes this show so worthwhile to me. Weak characters find their strength, friends become enemies, heroes die and are created, and you question the diference between bad people, and good people doing bad things for their own reasons. It’s heart-warming and gut-wrenching as you watch these characters steadily get older in the show and develop based on the choices they have made.

Intro/Outro: 4/5. For the most part the intros were quite good- I would say a pretty typical intro with a heartfelt anthem and shots of your favorite characters. All were good enough to watch a few times over. Season 3, part 1 was the only exception to this. The intro seemed like that from an easygoing kid’s show and didn’t seem to fit in my opinion.

Genre: This could fit into so many genres. As an action anime, I give it a 5/5. In the horror genre I would give it a 3/5. It’s not much of a horror show but does have some dark themes. It leans to the side of drama quite heavily especially in the later seasons, and I would give it a 5/5 in that category also.

Overally score for this? 5/5. Would watch again. I have, actually, I have watched it three times, read the manga, collected the merch, well, you get it. AOT is more of an experience then a show. You’ll get caught up in it. If you haven’t seen it I recommend it wholheartedly.

What did you think about Attack on Titan? What would you have reviewed differently?

  1. Credit for a spoiler-free review, especially for me; I have yet to finish the whole series (LOL shocker I know XD) and only finished the first season after six years. But from what I’ve seen – yeah, the characters’ determinations were easy to see, the music is definitely a bombshell, but the plot felt more akin to “The Walking Dead” in terms of premise and intrigue. Some work also could have been done on the twists.
I’ll definitely be looking to see how the next few seasons play out, hopefully not in another six years’ time haha

      1. I actually might go down that route – that’s just the way I like watching them! 😁

To be honest I really lagged on this series mainly because of my rather large backlog of series I wanted to watch. Didn’t help too that I watched the first episode at a time way before I got into anime, and once I got into it I guess I waded into a far different direction than the route AoT was on! Nevertheless, I’m kinda glad I did get to experience part of that adventure though, and see what’s all the hubbub with it.

      2. I 100% like to watch completed series too! I always get way too impatient waiting for the next season and usually end up reading the manga while waiting. That’s where I’m at with My Hero Academia. Binging a whole series is so much better. 😅
I will check out your blog too! I am always up for new ideas of things to watch!
