Am i wrong, for wanting to kill for my ideals?”
“I don’t think so.”
“I need your help. Give me the wisdom and courage to achieve my ambition.”
“Wisdom i can give. I am a consultant, after all. That said, you shouldn’t look to me for courage. Look to yourself.”

Don’t worry. It’s spoiler free.
Moriarty the Patriot. What can I saw about this show? It’s amazing, in summary. The manga series was created by Hikaru Miyoshi, who crafted the Psycho Pass manga, and it shares the same dark and mysterious tone. I began this show because feel reminded me of Black Butler, which was always a show I enjoyed. Both series are set in the same general time period in England.
I was curious to see how an anime would portray the classic detective and his rival. I wasn’t ready for the mysterious twisting and turning plot line, the excellent music, amazing characters, and everything else this show brought to the table.
Plot Rating: 5/5. Moriarty the Patriot is the Moriarty and Sherlock origin story shown like nothing we’ve ever seen. The show primarily starts out following Moriarty and his brothers, and the childhood experiences which drove their motivation for fighting injustice in the streets of London. It shows Moriarty’s goals and motives and plans to dismantle the gap between the exceedingly rich and exceedingly poor and all the discrimination that goes on due to this. It has you cheering for a cast of antiheros despite their methods, in a “it’s wrong but at the same time, so right.” feeling that you can’t fight. You are sure these brilliant heroes will succeed in anything, until a chance run in with everyone’s favorite hero…Sherlock Holmes. The show is then a cat and mouse game about Moriarty fighting the injustice in the city by whatever means possible, while trying to stay out of the grip of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. It keeps you spinning and often times you don’t know who to cheer for, the anti-hero, achieving “rightness” by all means necessary, or the actual lawful good?
This show is dark. It’s an adult anime (I would label it seinen) and is in the genre of crime and mystery. It takes itself very seriously. It deals with adult themes like murder, prostitution, drug use, corruption, and more. Sherlock and John provide some much needed comic relief (as always,) and this series is absolutely true to Sherlock and John’s friendship and their personalities, and casts Moriarty in an unforgettable light.
Character Rating: 5/5. The best thing about this show is the amazing characters. The anti-hero is the best type of hero, and that is what this show is all about. There are good people doing bad things. Questionable morals. People giving their hearts for a cause. The great character development helps craft why the characters do the things they do, and the growing relationship between Moriarty and Sherlock is intriguing and fun as you watch their ever-escalating battle of wits, while life hangs in the balance. There were a couple side characters i would have loved to have seen explored more, especially Colonel Moran, but every individual was excellent, the cast was well balanced and the struggle on both sides for justice and the greater good was very real.
Intro/Outro: 5/5. The intro was very good and showcased the characters and the dark tone of the show, and really hinted about what you what you were getting into. The outro was more on a lighter note, and the score of the whole show was amazing, (written by Asami Tachibana who wrote the score for the Haikyuu!! Series) The background music and sounds really set the tone for the whole show.
Genre: Crime? 5/5 Horror? 4/5. There were some moments that were truly horrifying. Psychological thriller? 5/5.
Overall score: 5/5. I watched this show in the original Japanese with English subtitles, and then watched it again when the English dub began airing- and I liked it much more in the Japanese sub. The English dub had actors working to put on English accents and these were a little hard to swallow for me. (I’ve heard worse, example Elijah wood in 1997 Oliver twist.) I’m splitting hairs when it comes to this, since the voice acting doesn’t have anything to do with the actual series. You get used to it, and if it bothers you as much as it did I, the sub is great. Overall, from the characters to the score, It’s an amazing show in every aspect.
Moriarty the Patriot will have you hooked by the first episode. Check it out and let me know what you think.
This looks great š
